Resumo: A osteoartrite (OA) é uma doença crônica que pode afetar a qualidade de vida dos pacientes. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a qualidade de vida de indivíduos com e sem diagnóstico de OA de joelho. Este estudo transversal contou com 34 participantes, 19 (55,8%) sem diagnóstico de OA e 15 (44,1%) portadores de OA de joelho; a idade média para os grupos sem e com diagnóstico de AO foi (57±6,7 anos) e (61,6±12,1 anos) respectivamente. Os participantes foram recrutados por meio de contato com Unidades Básicas de Saúde. Para avaliar a qualidade de vida foi aplicado o instrumento SF-36. Os resultados revelaram que a qualidade de vida geral foi inferior no grupo com OA (44,23±30,60 vs. 65,4±35,65; p=0,001). Nos domínios capacidade funcional e limitação por aspectos físicos o grupo OA também apresentou valores significantemente menores que os saudáveis (15,66±20,64 vs. 80,23±23,59; p<0.0001 e 18,33±30,91 vs. 60,52±32,76; p=0,0008, respectivamente). Concluiu-se que indivíduos portadores de OA de joelho apresentam pior qualidade de vida do que indivíduos saudáveis.

Abstract: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic disease that can affect patients’ quality of. The aim of this study was to compare the quality of life in individuals with and without diagnosis of knee OA. This cross-sectional study included 34 participants, 19 of them (57±6.7 years) without a diagnosis of OA and 15 (61.6±12.1 years) with knee OA. Participants were recruited through direct contact with Basic Health Units. To assess quality of life, SF-36 questionnaire was employed. Results revealed that general quality of life was lower in the group with OA (44.23±30.60 vs. 35.65±65.4; p=0.001). In the domains of functional capacity and limitations by physical aspects OA group also showed significantly lower values than healthy controls (15.66±20.64 vs. 80.23±23.59, p<0.0001 and 18.33±30.91 vs. 60.52±32.76; p=0.0008, respectively). We concluded that patients with knee OA knee present worse quality of life than healthy individuals.
